One of our Ruka Husky staff will greet you upon arrival.
You will be given instructions about how to drive a dog sled.
Please listen carefully to ensure a safe ride!
A short walk to the starting area and our guides will lead you to your dedicated sled. As both humans & dogs are very excited to go on the ride, we wait until after the husky safari to take pictures.
As the first guide takes off with his snowmobile, five dog teams will follow. After a small gap, the second group will depart to ensure a smoother, more private and quiet husky safari.
On the half way point the adults have the possibility to change driver.
Back at the starting area you can spend some time with our dogs.
We then head into the warmth for hot drinks, snack and a talk about sled dogs.

12:00 Winter fishing program
We will head out to check the nets under the lake ice. The local lakes are rich with many species of fish. While we are working, the guide tells stories about the history of Sossonniemi fishing village and the importance of fishing the industry in our daily lives. Over the years, the development of fishing equipment alone has been phenomenal!
We may find whitefish, perch, pike, burbot, or roach from the nets. After checking the nets we will carry on ice fishing and the guide will help us to get started. The catch may be perch or even a silvery whitefish.
14:30 Traditional 2-course lunch
The restaurant menu is comprised of dishes made of tasty local vegetables, forest mushrooms, fish and meat. The ancient tastes are still available: the handsome heathlands are rich with wild mushrooms, which in turn guarantee us succulent reindeer roasts, and the wide open lakes breed plenty of fish and also offer enough warmth and moisture for our forest berries and vegetables. The generations old tradition of fishing forms the basis for the speciality of our kitchen, fresh fish, which we serve prepared in many delicious ways.
